Farm News
Autumn 2008  Down on the Farm.
We have just about reached the end of the Farming year, not one of the
most memorable as the weather seemed to be never ending rain or a
series of heavy showers.  The lambs have grown and are nearly ready
to go for the "Chop". The cows have nearly all calved, producing a fine
crop of calves.  Our Shorthorn buy at the Perth bull Sales has settled
down fine and produced a fine bull calf. Crops have been gathered in
after a huge struggle with the weather.  Grain has surprisingly been
quiet a good quality and yield.  Plenty of silage has been made for
winter feeding.  Potatoes, although a good crop, were much harder to
harvest.  Soft fruit did not like the weather thrown at it and did not
perform too well, mould was prevalent. Worst affected was the tomato
crop which succumbed to the dreaded potato blight virus which
completely finished the crop.

Grain drying has finished thank goodness, the dust has been much
worse this year, due to the grain being so wet, but with the increased
grain yields our storage is just about full to capacity. Next job on the
calender is housing the stock for winter.  Never a dull moment!! We
have a new addition to our family, her name is Lina, she is an adorable
retriever guide dog which we have fallen in love with.  She has settled
into our family as if she been here for ever.
